1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, also known as NMP or n-Methylpyrrolidone, is an aprotic, highly polar organic solvent with a wide range of applications. The average consumer is most likely to encounter it in paint strippers, even though safer alternatives exist. NMP has been closely linked to developmental impacts including miscarriages. Contact may irritate skin eyes and mucous membranes. It is used as a solvent reagent and synthetic material.

Characteristics
NMP is a 5-member-ring compound containing nitrogen. It has a wide range of uses due to the following excellent characteristics. n-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is a chemical compound with 5-membered lactam structure. It is a clear to slightly yellow liquid miscible with water and solvents like ethyl acetate, chloroform, benzene and lower alcohols or ketones.
- It is highly polar and miscible with most organic solvents (alcohols, ethers, ketones, aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, etc.). Organic and inorganic substances are highly soluble in it.
- It mixes with water in all proportions.

Handling and Storage
NMP is classified under the Chinese Fire Services Act as a hazardous material, Class 4, Petroleums No.3 (4,000 liter quantity specified), water soluble, Hazardous Rank III.
Since NMP is hygroscopic, if moisture content is to be controlled, it is important to keep storage containers tightly closed or under a dry nitrogen atmosphere. Since NMP is a strong degreaser, in the event of skin contact wash immediately with water.

Application
1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidinone is in use and suitable for many kinds of prescription, etc. Its main applications are as follows:
1). Industrial Class: Lubricant refining; Electrical insulant; Pesticide accessory ingredient; High-class coating, printing ink, pigment, ect.
2). Fiber Class: Concentrate the acetylene; Extracte the butadiene, isoprene, aromatics, Polymerizing solvent for the engineering plastics which are difficult to dissolve(such as the polyphenylene sulfide and the polyimide) and the aromatic fiber;
3). Electric Class: Polymerizing lithium ion battery.
4). Reagent Class: deoil, defat, dewax, burnish, anti- rust and depainting,etc used in Integrated circuit profession and so on hard disk line, Requested strictly to control the metallic ion and Tiny dust particle; and The artifcial kidney function film liquid and the sea water desalination film liquid.
